Your business is not some kind of marshmallowy democratic love-in. Or a debating society. Or a social inclusion experiment.
You’re not looking for (or expecting) everyone to agree with your conclusion when you put it to a vote. You’re the boss and you’ll get a view from the team about a decision you need to make, and then you’ll make the decision. And once the decision is made you expect everyone to get behind it and make it work – until either it does, or it doesn’t and you change direction.
Don’t make rash decisions. Think carefully. Consult with your team. Weigh the pro’s and con’s, and then make a decision. Don’t make the mistake of seeking consensus – you don’t have the time. Not everyone is going to agree all the time, but it doesn’t matter. “Fit in or fuck off” as my friend Chris likes to say in his more philosophical moments. His is a “democratic autocracy” whatever that is!
