If you want to rise up the ranks and get ahead at work there's a simple technique you can use. It works like a charm. The principle is that it's not enough just to do your job - that's what you get paid a wedge for. Do something extra. Ask your boss if there's something you can take from his/her heavy and burdensome workload and do it with skill and precision.
For example:
Preparing the presentation for a monthly review.
Taking on an additional customer or supplier.
Checking or writing financial or performance reports.
Keeping records well organised.
Organising social events.
Supervising incoming customers on a Saturday morning.
Scheduling rotas.
Running workshops.
Speaking at conferences and exhibitions.
Creating new processes or evaluating 3rd party software solutions.
I worked as a product manager in a business that needed an additional forklift truck driver because of the increased volume of phones we were shipping. So I took a qualification and did that. Solved a blockage and I loved it.
Look around at what needs to be done and get stuck in. You'll benefit from the immediate experience and it will supercharge your career.
