Killing Creativity

The late Sir Ken Robinson gave a TEDTalk back in 2006. At the time of his death in August 2020, his presentation "Do schools kill creativity?" was the most watched TED talk of all time, with 66.3 million views on the TED channel and millions more on YouTube. It has been translated into 62 languages. It's still as fresh and relevant today (regrettably) as it was then.

You can watch it here. Maybe you've already seen it and sob, as I did, about the story of Gillian Lynne. What a near miss!

Start-ups need ideas, and creativity, and passion and diversity of thought. But not just start-ups - all of business needs it, and our education system isn't delivering. It's not all the fault of education designers and teachers; it's as much a societal problem where learning and understanding is being replaced by looking up and emulating. Whether entrepreneurs or intrapreneurs, we need a next generation of imaginative smart people who will rise to the challenges we face, not spend their lives on bloody TikTok.
