Sometimes you might hear investors ask, “is that a pre or post money valuation?” It just means that if your business had a valuation of £200,000 before your money raise, that's a pre-money valuation. If you raised £50,000, then your business is now worth £250,000 ‘post-money’.
Before you raise your investment you talk about pre-money. After you’ve received your investment you talk post-money.
It’s no more complicated than that. But just remember, if you're taking on an advisor to help you through the next raise, be clear whether their commission, if it's a % of valuation, is pre- or post-money. Or preferably just a % of the money they help raise.
